My Girlfriend is a Gumiho

The choice that the Hong sisters made was to make the story convincing by having the old lady, who is the source of the legend of Gumiho, appear at the end of the show. And in that process, all the predictable endings appeared in order -- from when Miho disappears on the last day leaving behind Dae-woong, to the moment Dae-woong gets hit by a truck to check Miho's existence, to when Miho meets with Dae-woong again in the way that they had first met. Like so, to remain the only story where the love between a human being and a certain species works out, the ending to "Gumiho" repeats itself several times. But even if you agree to the happy ending of "Gumiho," you are not agreeing to 'the world where everything is possible' in "Gumiho but merely agreeing emotionally from the hope that Dae-woong and Miho, who showed 'real love, not an illusion,' will not disappear and are living together happily. The Hong sisters had the chance to present a romantic story which overcomes obstacles in reality and moves between parodies and fantasy but it ran into limitations in terms of creating 'the world of the Hong sisters.'

사랑에는 국경도 없다고 했던가?

비극이냐, 해피엔딩이냐 여부를 놓고 세간의 이목이 집중됐던 SBS '내 여자친구는 구미호(이하 여친구)'가 끝내 해피엔딩으로 대단원의 막을 내렸다.

30일 방송된 최종회는 비록 구미호(신민아 분)가 인간이 되는 데는 실패했지만 대웅(이승기 분)의 옆에서 행복하게 함께 살게 되는 모습이 그려졌다.

그간 '여친구'는 '호이 커플' 미호와 대웅, 두 사람 중 한 명이 죽음을 맞아야 하는 설정으로 많은 시청자들의 애간장을 녹였다.

실제로 이날 대웅은 미호를 위해 자신의 목숨까지 버리려 했던 결심이 미호의 죽음을 멈추게 할 수 없다는 사실에 좌절했다. 미호는 끝내 죽음을 맞아야 하는 것이다. 미호는 "나는 사라지게 될 거야. 난 사람이 되고 싶은 마음을 멈출 수 없었어"라며 죽음이 멈추지 않았음을 고백했다.

이에 미호는 대웅의 곁을 떠나려 하지만 동주(노민우 분)는 "떠나는 건 나 혼자에요. 당신의 마지막을 지켜주는 건 저 사람"이라며 대웅을 그녀 앞에 데려온다.

대웅은 자신 몰래 떠나려했던 미호를 향해 "넌 지독하게 나쁜 구미호야. 이젠 심장 다 뜯어지게 아프게 하네. 정말 무서운 구미호야"라며 그녀를 원망했다. 이에 미호는 "미안해. 내가 네 옆에 있는 게 아무리 아프고 무서워도 계속 네 옆에 있어도 돼?"라며 죽음을 앞둔 마지막 순간을 함께 하기로 결심한다.

그렇게 두 사람은 애틋한 마지막 하루를 함께 보내고, 슬픈 마지막 키스를 나누며 미호를 사라진다.

하지만 이게 끝은 아니냐. 삼신할머니는 "목숨 아홉 개를 다 잃고 구슬까지 인간에게 넘겨줬는데 그냥 살려줄 수는 없지 않냐"면서도 "시간이 흐르다보면 하늘이 정신 줄 놓을 때도 있겠지"라고 묘한 여운을 남긴다.

이렇게 시간은 흘러 대웅은 영화 '월하검객'으로 세간의 주목을 받게 되고, 그런 대웅 앞에 동주가 갑자기 모습을 드러낸다. 동주는 "곧 일식이 있을 거다. 원래 달과 해는 만날 수 없는데 달과 해가 만나는 게 일식"이라며 "하늘이 정신이 나간 미친 시간이 곧 올 것"이라고 미호가 돌아올 것임을 암시했다.

일식 직후 미호의 전화기가 울리고 대웅은 미호의 전화를 받는다. 미호는 "지금은 너한테 안 보일거야. 하지만 네 곁에, 난 네 곁에 있어"라는 말을 남기고 전화가 끊기고 만다.

그리고 이렇게 끝나는 것이냐 좌절하는 대웅 앞에 꿈처럼 미호가 나타난다. 대웅은 "귀신이든, 사람이든 상관없다"며 "그냥 내 옆에만 있어 달라. 돌아온 거면 됐다"고 기쁨의 눈물을 흘린다.

물론 미호는 "아직 꼬리가 하나 남아 있다"며 인간이 되는 데는 실패했음을 고백했다. 하지만 두 사람은 생사, 혹은 인간이냐 구미호냐 여부를 떠나 사랑의 힘으로 모든 것을 극복하며 행복한 결말을 맺었다.

한편 '여친구' 후속으로 내달 6일부터는 '대물'이 방송된다.

“Mm, it seems like today passed by somewhat hectically. I think I was really hectic today as I was preparing for this concert. Whenever I prepare a song or an album or a concert like this, I learn a lot. This album also taught me a lot. And getting ready for this concert and meeting all of my fans like this face to face, really taught me a lot.

“Ah, really, seeing as how I can say that I gained something even in the middle of all this hecticness, I can see that I have an even greater ambition in my heart to always make myself better for the next time. I think when it comes to my stage and music, the next time is always more precious to me. I want to thank all of you for cheering me on to become the kind of musician I’ve dreamed of being, one step at a time.

“I don’t know why I feel so out of my mind today.. Probably because I had been thinking about this concert since I was putting together the album. I worked on my album while thinking about my concert, and maybe it’s because my expectations were so big, but it seems like it went by kind of out of control. I think all of you felt that way too.

“Now the journey of my solo album.. It was a really long journey. As with all journeys, there were difficult and lonely times, but all of those times taught me great things. All those things I experienced and the things I fought through and won on my own, all those things are helping me now. Maybe that’s why I’m really sad to see my solo promotions come to a close after tomorrow’s concert. It feels really bittersweet.

“Because I want to show you only good things of myself all the time, I think my next solo album.. I think that it will have to take a long time. Because I think I’ll only be able to put together a new album after searching more of myself and knowing more of who I am. There’s so many things that need to be done and so many things I lack that need to be filled up. The important thing now is that I’ve been thinking that I have to spend a lot more time for myself. And then when I’ve put together a good album.. when I’ve made an album that I am satisfied with, I’ll be able to see all of you again.

“I don’t know why I feel so sad. But because so much has happened during this time, I often think that I need some time to myself. To tell you the truth, I don’t know if it’s because of that, but I had a hard time finding control when the concert began. It was really hard to control myself, even though I should have held myself together more..

“One thing I want to say to all of you, is that there is much more of my stage and my music that I want to show you, so I would love it if you believed in me and waited for me like you do now. And I would love it if we could see each other with smiling faces when that time comes, like how it was when we first met.

“And I would like all of you to really be happy. All of you who came tonight and those that couldn’t be here but enjoy my music are so special to me, and I want to say that I am truly thankful. Thank you so much.

“Ah.. it’s time for me to return to my hometown Big Bang, and I already have a desire to show all of you a good time. And I’ll be waiting for your applause and support.

Kim Jae Wook joins Jang Geun suk's drama

Model and actor Kim Jae-wook has been cast in an upcoming TV series starring top Korean actors Jang Keun-suk and Moon Geun-young, according to the show's promoter Ytree;media.

Ytree announced through a press release that Kim will appear as the love rival of Jang Keun-suk's character in the series based on online comic "Mary is Out of Night" by famed cartoon writer Won Soo-yeon set to air starting November.

Kim will take on the role of Jung-in, the Mr. Perfect with money, brains and the looks who weds Mary, played by Moon, for 100 days in a fake marriage.

Kim, 27, came into the spotlight after appearing in smash hit drama "The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince" (MBC, 2007) and has since made several more appearances on the small and big screen including film "Antique" and most recently drama "Bad Boy."

"Rock of Ages," a jukebox musical being introduced in Korea for the first time, gathered attention for its casting of boy band SHINee member Onew as an aspiring rock star. While jukebox musicals "Mamma Mia!" and "All Shook Up," both hits in Korea, created new stories through the songs of established musicians such as ABBA and Elvis Presley, "Rock of Ages" takes rock music as the main character. The appearance of rock music such as "I Wanna Rock" and "We're Not Gonna Take It" which swept an era, is a given. Then there is the love triangle between aspiring rock star Drew, aspiring actress Sherrie from the countryside, and rock star Stacee who is beyond his prime, as well as the struggle to protect rock club "The Bourbon" which was the core of the L.A. metal scene in real life. It is practically made up of rock from start to finish. Hence, Korean veteran rock bands Boohwal and Novasonic have been assigned Stacey's band members and are the ones in charge of the live performance for "Rock of Ages." When sound that rings their hearts are created, the use of multivision which creates the effect of one watching a video of a performance and special effects usually used in concerts, closes the distance between the stage and the audience.

With an atmosphere resembling that of an actual rock concert having been created, all that is left now is how well the actors do with the well-set table before them. That is why "Rock of Ages" has tutors planted in various aspects. Paying attention to the fact that many musical actors are weak when it comes to rock singing, Shin Sung-woo playing the role of Stacee, has volunteered to be the vocal trainer and actual rock band TRAX members Jay and Burette's Moon Hye-won, cast as the members of Drew and Sherrie, respectively, plan to lead on the musical also starring Ahn Jae-wook, Onew, Dana and Sunday. Onew, starring in his second-ever musical, raised the anticipation by taking on quite the appearance of a rock star through the overall vibe and will he gave off. T-ara discuss their new album and new member, Ryu Hwayoung

Girl group T-ara came together for a very special interview. T-ara has undergone great changes recently and now gets a holiday. Although they're currently on holiday, they kindly accepted this interview.

Earlier this year, T-ara's "Bo Peep Bo Peep" and "I Go Crazy Because of You" became recognized by every one. After that, Eunjung, Jiyeon, Qri, Hyomin and Boram all underwent acting jobs with Soyeon preparing for hers, making all six of them actresses. This created even greater awareness for T-ara.

After this year's Chuseok season though, T-ara will go back to the music roots with a big change.

T-ara will start preparing 100% for their October comeback with a new mini album. The six girls will resume full-scale activities as a group after it's been nearly six months. But the fans will not be able to call T-ara a six member girl group no longer. That is because Ryu Hwayoung has joined T-ara being the same age, '93, as maknae Jiyeon. She will officially join with the release of this new album. In October, you may call T-ara a seven member girl group.

Eunjung said, "Hwayoung went to Guangzhou (southern China) for her holiday and will come back on the 23rd where we will do some finishing things on the album," about her new dongsaeng.

Hyomin also said, "Now I have a bigger responsibility and have to keep track of my style better. Hwayoung has already given me a lot of help and advice on [my style]."

Jiyeon: "Now that I have someone my age in the group, it's good," she said smiling.

Ryu Hwayoung is not included in this interview because she hasn't yet officially debuted.

T-ara hasn't been together promoting full scale since "I Go Crazy Because of You" which was six months ago. During this holiday break they'll get to prepare for the new album. They said the new album has an extraordinary passion.

The new leader, Boram said, "Now that I'm a leader and there is a new member, I have a lot more responsibility. This holiday will help me prepare for this and the new album."

Hyomin said, "Preparing for the album was hard, but it's pleasant to have a holiday break and relax. When I'm back on stage I'll be able to play a fast, hard and ready character."

When the full moon comes over this holiday, all the girls will wish for a successful new album.

Qri said, "I'll be looking at the moon wishing for great success with T-ara's album. It would be good to see that happen, of course."

Soyeon also said, "I wish for T-ara to finish strong this year with our comeback album."

"This is a great time to go outside the house, spend all day watching television and eat a delicious holiday meal, I know I will," Hyomin said, "Fans should turn on the TV because they will see T-ara every day in special shows."

The T-ara members final words were, "Have a great holiday with your family and relatives. We will send hopeful prayers your way. Make sure you make a wish when the moon is full, you do not want to have a blank mind!"

Female Stars Boasting Their Natural Beauty

These days, girl groups are duking it out in terms of how beautiful their natural, bare faces are. Whereas before, netizens would have to go digging around for makeup-free shots of their favorite female idol stars, these days, stars are uploading such shots on their own accord. This can be taken as a sign of the girls' confidence in their natural beauty.

Take the ladies of SISTAR for example. They uploaded videos of themselves practicing dance routines with makeup-free, bare faces onto their homepage. This video of course spread to major video sites such as You Tube.

Another group that is quite proud of their untouched physical charm is 4minute. They're known as the group where none of its members have undergone plastic surgery; a rarity in this day and age. They've also currently created much buzz over a recent commerical shooting. It appears as if the girls don't have any makeup on in it.

What caused this change in attitude towards bare faces? Well, many attribute it to sexy queen, Lee Hyori who appeared on the very popular variety program "Family Outing". In it, viewers were able to see her morning after morning, looking slightly puffy without a drop of makeup on. Rather than ruining her image though, Lee was able to garner much love for being so real.

After "Family Outing", other female stars started to show off their bare faces on various variety programs. Especially one show in particular, "Infinity Challenge", which stars many of kpop's favorite female idol stars: Brown Eyed Girls' Narsha, KARA's Goo Hara, T-ara's Hyomin, Secret's Sun-hwa, f(x)'s Victoria, After School's Joo-yeon and Sori.

It's not just on air though. Stars are taking to their facebook and twitter accounts by posting up shots of themselves au naturale.?

YouTube version of "Naughty Kiss" to air starting November

"Naughty Kiss" starring popular singer and actor Kim Hyun-joong will be turned into an online version which will show on video-sharing website YouTube starting November.

A press conference was held at Google Korea's headquarters in Seoul on Wednesday, announcing that the TV show's producer Group 8 and YouTube owner Google have agreed to create a YouTube version of the series originally based on Japanese comic "Itazura na Kiss."

The two parties explained that seven ten-minute long episodes, with the same cast and director from the TV show but with new or additional details, will be newly shot and distributed through an exclusive channel on YouTube, allowing viewers from across the world to watch the show.

"This is an innovative attempt through which a domestic drama broadcast on a public network will newly be produced into an online version, and it has significance in that it will diversify the channel through which video contents are distributed," Group 8 CEO Song Byung-joon remarked.

Starting early October, when the channel for the YouTube version of "Naughty Kiss" opens, viewers will be able to submit entries for story idea contributions as well as take part in an event recruiting subtitle creators for the show from various country.

Kim plays the role of Baek Sung-jo, the all-around Mr. Perfect-type character who ends up falling in love with a girl always getting into trouble, taken on by Jung.

Kim Hyun-joong series "Naughty Kiss" sold to 12 countries

New MBC TV series "Naughty Kiss" starring popular singer and actor Kim Hyun-joong, was sold to 12 countries around the world ahead of going on air early this month, according to the show's producer Group 8 on Wednesday.

Park Rae-hyun, in charge of the PR & Promotions team at Group 8, told 10Asia that the series was sold to several nations including Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand, the Philippines and the United States for a total four billion won, equivalent to about 3.4 million dollars.

In a couple of the countries, such as Thailand and the Philippines, the show was sold for the highest price in Korean drama history.

The show has also already been set to air twice a week on cable music channel Mnet Japan starting December although additional details have yet to be set.

2NE1's Interview

"That we're scary. When people say that, we find it funny."

The powerful girls have returned even more powerful. We're talking about the 4 member girl group, 2NE1.

Breaking the stereotype that girl groups must be pretty, rather than musically talented, like the tough girls they are, plunging themselves into the unpopular genre of music in Korea, hip-hop, and have once again stood in front of the public, this time with even more powerful music and visuals than from the 'Fire' days.

One day before the release of their first full length album, 'To Anyone', these tough girls had paid E-Daily SPN's office a visit. The female employees working at the office who waited for 2NE1 were even more thrilled (than the males).

They had arrived with almost no makeup on and dressed in their day-to-day outfits however due to the image that they have built since the moment they debuted, it was still possible to feel their 'force'. Entering into their 2nd year after debut, they can still be considered rookies. However when you feel their 'force', they are a girl group that definitely catches one's eye.


Q: It's been a while. How long has it been?

A: One year. Since we rested for so long, I'm a bit worried about our live performances. That we might tense up. I'm half nervous, half excited. (CL)

Q: 2NE1 saying that they're nervous doesn't seem to match them well. What's the reason?

A: No matter what, I think that it's because we want to show ourselves to fans as even better than before. Due to our greed to meet our fan's expectations, it can be quite burdensome, to say the least. (Dara)

Q: There are three title songs, 'Clap Your Hands', 'Can't Nobody', and 'Go Away'. It seems like your schedules will be pretty jam-packed?

A: As we would make one song by one and listen to them, we liked them all, and so we felt that it would be a waste to only have them as side songs. We had said that it'd be great if we could present all three on stage however somewhere along the way it was actually decided on doing it like that. It seems like we're planning to show a different song on each music program. Rather than seeing it as a tough thing, since we'll be able to perform several different stages, it seems like it'll be exciting. (CL)

Q: Since it's your first full length album, it seems like there's a lot of fans anticipating it. What kind of songs are in the album?

A: We put a lot of effort and time into preparing for it. Although the genre can feel a bit unfamiliar, 'Can't Nobody' is a song that we prepare for this year during March and April. 'Clap Your Hands' is a popular hip hop style song which 2NE1 can play around with during performances. 'Go Away' has a lovely melody like 'I Don't Care', 'It Hurts' is an R&B song. As you can see, this being our first full length album, we worked hard to fill it with a variety of different music. (CL)


2NE1's first full length album, 'To Anyone', is loaded with a total of 12 songs including five songs that were previously released (You and I, Please Don't Go, Kiss, Try to Follow Me, etc.) as well as a 'Can't Nobody' English version. Several up-and-coming producers participated in this album, including the one that CL calls 'papa', Teddy (2NE1 even points him out occasionally as the 5th member of 2NE1.), e.knock, who is better known as KUSH, choice 37, PK, etc and have collectively perfected several different styles of music. Being their first album, they diligently introduced the new album and expressed their self pride.

Q: 'Can't Nobody', as well as 'Clap Your Hands' both have have a stronger, more powerful feeling than 'Fire'. As a result, don't you think that a stereotype will develop that "2NE1 seems to have a strong personality", "They seem scary"?

A: We express our style strongly, through makeup, hair and fashion that matches with our music. As a result, ever since we debuted, we seemed to have obtained a very powerful image unintentionally. Although 'I Don't Care' was more endearing, 'Fire' was originally very tough, and so our strong image did not disappear. However we find that image funny. It seems like that kind of look matches 2NE1. We're gonna be tough this time too… (Laughs)


Q: Is it too much to anticipate a girly concept from 2NE1?

A: Doesn't it seem like it'll be tough? Even though we're not young girls, there are some times when we want to appear feminine as well (Laughs)

Q: We heard that while you were in the US, you produced music with Black Eyed Peas' will.i.am. It seems like it was a valuable experience, and influenced you, while preparing for your first album.

A: This year, from April to June, we spent 10 days in the US and England recording . We didn't stay for long so I don't think you can go to the extent of saying we changed, however we felt a gap. In order to perfect the songs, we would sometimes record even more than 10 times, however will.i.am would finish the recording within one or two attempts. It was like thinking about each and every moment's emotions more importantly. While recording with him, it seems like our speed at recording has sped up a bit. (Park Bom)


Q: What is 2NE1 anticipating for the activities this time?

2NE1 has become a topic, having worked with US hip-hop group, Black Eyed Peas' leader, will.i.am and expressed their true concerns about debuting in the US.

In a recent interview, 2NE1 had revealed, "Debuting in the US is something that anyone dreams about", "However we don't want to rush it. We want to debut with music that can well reflect 2NE1's style and prepare perfectly, even if it takes 5 or 10 years."

From April to June, 2NE1 had visited LA in the US and London in England in three rounds, each for ten days.At those places, they would meet will.i.am and worked on 10 songs in preparation for their debut in the US.

Q: How was your first meeting with will.i.am.

A: Will.i.am finishes recordings in 1~2 attempts. Rather than doing it 10 or 20 times to perfect it, it seems that he thinks that the emotion expressed during that moment was more important. MC Mong Dropped from TV Shows Over Draft Dodging Charge

Rapper MC Mong, a fixture on many popular shows, will be dropped from all TV programs on terrestrial channels since he is being investigated by police for draft dodging.

Police suspect MC Mong intentionally had some healthy teeth pulled to avoid mandatory military service. A spokesman for SBS on Tuesday said the network decided to cancel his appearances in its programs.

KBS also said he will "temporarily" not be appearing on further programs. A KBS spokesman said, "Although the case is still under investigation, considering public sentiment about the issue and our status as a national broadcaster, we decided to temporarily stop MC Mong from appearing on our TV shows starting Friday."

Lee Byung-hun named tourism ambassador for California

Top Korean actor Lee Byung-hun has been named the U.S. state of California's ambassador for tourism, according to a press release from his agency BH Entertainment on Tuesday.

BH announced in a press release Lee will be appointed the tourism ambassador for the California Travel & Tourism Commission tomorrow at a commissioning ceremony to be held at the JW Marriott Hotel.

Governor of state Arnold Schwarzenegger will be present at the event -- he is in Korea for discussions on "Globalizing Trade and Investment" as well as tourism to California.

Lee's duties as the tourism ambassador will include informing Korean travelers of the appeals of visiting California.

Lee, 40, is one of the most popular actors in Korea with dozens of television dramas and films under his belt.

He last starred in Korean blockbuster TV series "IRIS" last year while also making his Hollywood debut in the action flick "G.I. Joe" and in "I Come With The rain."

Recently he starred in Korean thriller "I Saw The Devil" alongside actor Choi Min-sik and helmed by critically acclaimed director Kim Ji-woon which is currently playing in local theaters.

Kang Ji-hwan agency ends dispute with Kang's former representative

Actor Kang Ji-hwan's agency S-Plus Entertainment and his former agency Jambo Entertainment have ended a months-long legal spat over Kang's working contract.

A press release issued by S-Plus on Tuesday stated that the two firms have found common ground on issues surrounding management of the actor's career, leading both S-Plus and Jambo to "put behind the legal battle stemmed from misunderstandings and a conflict of opinions and reach a positive conclusion."

The two parties had been embroiled in a row since early this year when Jambo claimed that Kang had breached terms of his exclusive contract with them, valid until August, by signing with S-Plus in January.

S-Plus, while admitting Kang had several months left on his previous contract but affirming that legitimate measures were taken to legalize Kang's move, in turn then pressed charges against Jambo on charges of embezzlement and document forgery. Police had been cross-examining Kang and Jambo since March.

Recently, he finished playing a role in TV series "Coffee House" and he is now the producer for musical "Cafe In." He will star in the production during its run in Japan set to start on October 16.

Supreme Team and Young-jun top Mnet chart with "Why"

Korean rapping duo Supreme Team and Brown Eyed Soul's Young-jun celebrated their first win atop cable music channel Mnet's singles chart during the third week of September.

The latest collaboration "Why" entered the chart at No. 1, pushing out previous winner "U" by 4Men to tenth place, while the new single "I Must Have Been Crazy" by girl group SeeYa made its way to the top tier in second place and was followed sequentially by "Can't Nobody" by quartet 2NE1.

On the albums chart, Korean female girl group 2NE1's first full-length album "To Anyone" came in first place during the week of September 6 to 12, while 4Men's mini-album "You" dropped a notch to No. 2 and Supreme Team and Young-jun's single album "Why" bowed into the chart at No. 3.

BEAST to release new album by early Oct

Korean boy band BEAST, who were forced to put off their comeback to the local music scene following main vocalist Yang Yo-seop undergoing surgery for a nose tumor, are expected to release an album by early October.

"BEAST are planning on making a comeback by later this month, or early October, at the latest," an official at the boys' agency Cube Entertainment said to Asia Economic Daily.

He then explained that the upcoming release, the six-man band's third album, is almost complete and the boys are currently deciding on the title track.

Yang, who received surgery for a severe case of chronic rhinitis, has also recovered and actively preparing for the group's comeback, the official said.

Lee Min-ho cast in Korean adaptation of "City Hunter"

Korean actor Lee Min-ho has been cast in an upcoming Korean small screen adaptation of the Japanese comic "City Hunter," according to the show's PR firm 3HW COM on Monday.

"City Hunter," originally a Japanese manga series by Tsukasa Hojo, is about a private detective named Ryo Saeba who works to get rid of crime in the city of Tokyo during the latter half of the 1980s.

3HW announced that Lee will be playing the role of Ryo Saeba in the Korean drama version which will be based in present time Seoul, making it the first time the comic will be turned into a drama.

"Many famous directors and actors requested to remake 'City Hunters' but the original author had various demands which halted any productions to be created," an official from the show explained. "However, the author was satisfied with Lee taking on the lead role for the Korean adaptation due to his appeal and energy."

The new drama is schedule to air in the first half of next year.

Lee, 23, first appeared in various TV and short dramas in 2006. He rose to stardom in Korea and throughout other Asian countries playing the role of Goo Jun-pyo in the Korean adaptation of "Boys Over Flowers" (KBS, 2009) alongside actress Ku Hye-sun and actor Kim Hyun-joong.

His last small screen role was in March in the hit MBC series "Personal Taste," in which he pretends to be a homosexual man, opposite Korean actress Son Ye-jin.

2NE1 to assign one song to each broadcast… a fresh challenge

2NE1 is embarking in a new unique type of activities.

On the 1st, 2NE1 released their first album . They are now scheduling to fix one title song to each of the music shows. This is risk is one of the new challenges that these girls are taking. For example, if is chosen for KBS, and will be performed on MBC and SBS.


2NE1's company, YG stated, "From the beginning, we've planned to do activities without any regards to rankings. All three songs have a different feel to them. This plan was devised in order to have distinct and unique performances for each broadcast."

2NE1's representatives still have not confirmed the title songs with the broadcasting company. Starting on the 17th, with KBS 2TV , after going through every single music show once, each broadcast will have a 'fixed' title song.

YG stated, "We have a rough outline but we still haven't confirmed it yet. We are fine-tuning our understanding about each of the music shows, and we will fully prepare in order to come up with great performances."

Moon Geun-young joins Jang Keun-suk for new drama

Top Korean actress Moon Geun-young has decided to join the main cast of an upcoming KBS TV series also starring actor Jang Keun-suk, according to the show's promoter Ytree;media on Monday.

Ytree announced through a press release that the 23-year-old starlet will take on the role of the shameless and optimistic Mary in the drama based on comic "Mary is Out of Night" by famed cartoon writer Won Soo-yeon.

"Mary" will be a romantic comedy which revolves around Mary who makes realizations about love and herself while being in two fake marriages for 100 days -- to Moo-kyul, a hippie and Indie band lead vocalist who has nothing, and Jung-in, a man who has everything including the brains, looks and wealth.

"'Mary' is brilliant in terms of its material and plot but is also fun and appealing because of its unique characters," Moon said. "I feel pressured because simulated marriage is a topic which has never been handled in dramas before but I'm also excited and nervous about how I'll show it."

Just last week, Jang had confirmed he had been cast for the role of Moo-kyul in the drama set to air starting November, after series "Sungkyunkwan Scandal" ends its run.

Moon, currently starring in play "Closer" as Alice, the role of a stripper taken on by Natalie Portman in the movie version, last appeared on the popular small screen show "Sister of Cinderella" five months ago.

Moon, with already 10 years of acting experience under her belt, has appeared in numerous films and dramas including "Autumn Tale" and "My Little Bride."

She also won the grand prize at major broadcaster SBS' year-end Acting Awards last year for her role as a talented painter in drama "The Painter of the Wind" which has received several international acclaims.

FT Island tops music charts over weekend

Korean rock band FT Island topped both televised music programs over the weekend with their latest single "Love, love, love."

The five-member band scored their first win on KBS' Friday show "Music Bank" while collecting their second consecutive Mutizen Award on SBS' Sunday music program "Inkigayo."

However, the group was unable to receive their award on “Inkigayo” due to their participation at the Dream Concert over the weekend with other K-pop stars.

The boys returned to the local music scene with their second mini-album "beautiful journey," featuring their title track "Love, love, love," which has fared well on various online and offline music charts since its release in August 25.

FT Island, who made their debut in June 2007, has also managed a successful music career in Japan as well, releasing two major single albums "Flower Rock" and "Brand-new days." They will be holding a joint concert with top Japanese singers CHEMISTRY and RHYMESTER later on this month.

Infinite's first fanmeet

Korean boy band INFINITE will be holding their first-ever fan meeting on September 19, according to their agency Woolim Entertainment on Tuesday.

Woolim announced in a press release that in celebrating the boys 100th day since their debut, they will meet and greet their fans at CGV Art Hall located in the Times Square shopping center in Yeongdeung-po of Seoul.

The event will be hosted by comedian Park Hwi-soon and the group will be singing all the tracks from their first album, give solo performances as well as hold a question and answer session with their fans.

"Preparing for this fan meeting is different from preparing for a show. We are working hard to put on the best performance for our fans which they have not seen before," the members of INFINITE were quoted as saying, adding that they hope to spend a great time with their fans.

INFINITE, composed of members L, Hoya, Woo-hyun, Sung-kyu, Dong-woo, Sung-yeol and Sung-jong, made their debut in April through Mnet’s reality TV show "INFINITE! You are the One." They released their first mini-album featuring the song "Come Back Again" and followed it up with the single "She's Back."

Bae Yong Jun's photo essy

Top Hallyu star Bae Yong-joon's photo essay "Discovering the Beauty of Korea," which has been sold in both Korea and Japan, will also go on the shelves of Taiwan.

Bae's agency KEYEAST announced through a press release on Tuesday that the Taiwanese version, completed after a year-long period of translation, will go on sale in the country starting today.

"We had constantly received requests and inquiries regarding the book's publication not only from fans but also regular readers. We're hoping it will be received well by people of all ages since it serves as a guidebook to Korea's culture instead of being the typical star-related book," the book's Taiwanese publisher SBOOKER explained.

KEYEAST added that a Chinese and English version of Bae's photo essay are also set to be published.

"Discovering" had entered into its 13th print a month after going on sale in Korea in late September last year and a re-print in three days of its release in Japan.

The book contains photographs of various cultural artisans that the actor met during his travels, as well as introductions to Korean culture and travel locations which Bae compiled over a one-year period.

2NE1 2nd track "CLAP"

K-pop artists 2NE1 yesterday unveiled the second title track to their upcoming album, according to the group's agency YG Entertainment on Tuesday.

YG announced in a press release that the first verse of the girls' second title track "Clap" was uploaded onto YG's official blog, YG Life, as well as photographs from the set of their music video.

"Clap" features the rapping styles of the four-member girl group in a percussion instrument background, while the photographs revealed the latest concept of the girls wearing smoky eye make-up and henna tattoos.

Just last week, the group released the teaser to their first title track "Can't Nobody" and song "It Hurts" on the official blog.

2NE1, composed of members CL, Sandara, Bom and Minzy, made their debut last year in a mobile phone commercial for LG alongside popular boy band Big Bang. The girls have produced various hit songs including "Fire," "I Don't Care" and "Try to Follow Me."

They will be releasing their first full-length album titled "To Anyone," locally and internationally, on September 9 and give their comeback performance, singing three of their title tracks, on SBS' music program "Inkigayo" three days later.

Kim Hyun-joong to release pictorial book on Sept 15

A pictorial book featuring photographs of Korean idol Kim Hyun-joong's travels in Spain will be released in Korea in mid-September, according to the book's creator SBS Contents Hub on Monday.

SBS announced that the booklet titled "READ, ACTION!" will be released in the country on September 15, while preorders for the book began on September 1 in Korea and was pre-sold in Japan last month.

The 208-page book, divided into two parts under the themes of time he spends alone and time he spends in the eye of the public, contains pictures of the star and him with his travel companions in Spain.

"I was able to take part in a tour, visit famous parks and concert halls in Spain and watch the flamenco dance," the actor was quoted as saying, adding that he had a good time traveling with great people.

Preorders for "READY, ACTION!" is available on online site www.crazyidol.co.kr until tomorrow and orders will open on various web-based sites on September 8.

Kim made his debut as one of the members of the popular K-pop group SS501 in 2005. He shot to stardom throughout Asia starring in last year's smash hit TV series "Boys Over Flowers" alongside Lee Min-ho and Ku Hye-sun.

They had also went to Kangreung as a vacation with Haha and MC Mong, where the T-ara members had an enjoyable time reading the letters of their close family members' requests.

Jiyeon received a request letter from her older brother, then revealing "Oppa keeps asking me to introduce him to Hyomin unni", causing Hyomin to show an awkward smile to the sudden confession.

The members mentioned "Jiyeonnie has video calls with her brother over 10 times a day" to which Haha jokingly commented "He's doing that to get to see Hyomin".

Star Interview: Jaebum's return

-> He wants to work with Shin Mina

Jaebum plays the role of Darkness in a b-boy movie titled 'Hype Nation.' "When I first received the offer, I wasn't going to do it. However, I decided to do it because I could be together with AOM. Fortunately, it was a movie about b-boying so there wasn't any particular hardships about it. Just that there were a couple parts that required my acting skills and even I could see that I looked awkward."

Although it was a hard decision, 'Hype Nation' holds a lot more meaning to him now. As a part of the Sidus HQ family, will Park Jaebum be changing career paths as an actor?

"No. Because I can't act, I'm going to put more focus on my career as a singer. Now, for example, I'm focusing about 90% into my singing and 10% into acting. I am, however, still interested in acting. I'd like to try comedies, I think it'd be a lot easier and fun."

Then does he have a female actress he'd like to work with?

"Other than company events, I've never met any of the actors. But if I had to choose, I'd like to try acting with Shin Mina. There's something that's hard to explain about her smile, it's cute at the same time.

After spending 9 months of hardships, he returned to Korea. "I loved my return. I was able to meet my fans again and show them a lot of good sides of me."

Is there anything he wanted to eat in particular? "I craved samkyeopsal. I love meat in general but I couldn't forget the taste of wrapping it with grilled garlic. I ate a lot of it after I returned."

It's a rather surprising answer. One of Jaebum's trademarks are his distinctive chocolate abs. The nickname of 'Jjit-Jaebum' has followed him since his days as a 2PM member, but how is it that he enjoys the infamous high calorie samkyeopsal? Usually, people with such nice bodies enjoy meals consisting of chicken breasts and whatnot. Park Jaebum answered, "I just don't gain weight as easily so there's nothing I'm picky about. I just try not to eat late at night."

Does this mean that he's born with it? (TN: MAYBE IT'S MAYBELLINE) Jaebum seemed like he was in despair at the conclusion but quickly answered, "To make abs, exercising is the most important. I used to concentrate on exercising my abs for one to two hours a day because abs disappear quickly if you don't exercise them. It's gotten a lot harder now so I've cut it down to an hour."

At the interview, Jaebum appeared looking rather skinny. He also had a severe cold, making him pause to blow his nose or cough.

"People at the fan meeting probably saw but it was crazy. I lost about 3kg while preparing for my prformances. I guess it was too much, I eventually caught a cold." Still, he claims that he's happy being able to meet his Korean fans after such a long while. "Honestly, even while in America, I received about 40,000 letters and met with my fans through uploading internet videos so I didn't feel any distance between us. I'm just thankful that I'm able to meet them again."

As I watched him excitedly express his thoughts, I suddenly thought of 2 words: color coordination. Even on the day of the interview, he was wearing a black wife beater, black jeans, and even black shoes. When I mentioned his color coordination, he answered with a bright smile, "I think it's prettier to match colors."

I brought up his fans thinking he matches the color pink the best, in which Jaebum jokingly replied, "That's why I only wear pink underwear." This is probably the reason he's so loved by his fans. Even when he picks his underwear, he thinks of them.

As the interview came to a close, I asked him, "Do you ever think of returning to 2PM?"

He seemed closed in thought for a moment before he answered, "It was a good time for me. Although there were bad things that happened, being able to debut with that group was an honor and something memorable. It was a bitter experience but I'd like for all of us to do well."

When finally asked what his future plans were, he replied, "Whatever opportunities come my way, I'm just going to go with the flow. I think all I need to do is enjoy what I'm doing and work hard."

His answer was the 23 year old Park Jaebum of 'today.'
